Environmental Engineering+Ecology

The institute for eE+E was established in 1996, at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, at the Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany. Our staff members range from national to international professionals, with backgrounds from diverse disciplines, from the private and public sectors, to Academia eE+E contributes to environmental planning, as well as to the environmental compatibility of buildings. Our special focus is on the subject areas of "environment, water + ecology". Our activities are focussed on the following thematic areas:

  • Environmental Planning: Integrated Land Use and Water Resource Management;
  • Modelling: Material Flows, Water, Life Cycle Assessment;
  • Environmental Risks, Environmental Compatibility of Structures and Construction Measures;
  • Geographic and Environmental Information Systems (GIS) in Environmental Planning;
  • Environmental Monitoring: Water, Groundwater, Ecology.

More detailed information on our fields of activity, main research areas and our range of services can be found in the following publications:

Internationally, since the year 2000, eE+E has been active in Vietnam, South Africa and China, working on research projects on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and Land Use Management, as well as on projects concerning mining and the environment (Environmental Engineering, Environmental Planning).

Our technical facilities and professional proficiencies include:

  • Groundwater and Surface Water Modelling (MODFLOW, MIKE HYDRO River, MIKE HYDRO Basin, MIKE 11, MIKE SHE, MIKE FLOOD, SWAT, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), Material Flow Modelling (Umberto, Stan), Geoinformation Systems (ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS), Remote Sensing (ERDAS Imagine, Idrisi), Dynamic Modelling (Powersim), etc;
  • Equipment for Laboratory and Field Investigations (soil, water, air).

We also cooperate with research institutions, ministries and industry professionals at home and abroad.
