Requirements IGSN CSC Programme

Requirements of the RUB-China Scholarship Council (CSC) Programme at the International Graduate School of Neuroscience (IGSN)

For the IGSN PhD programme, applicants must hold a Master's, Diploma or equivalent degree in neuroscience, biology, chemistry, electrical engineering, mathematics, psychology, or other related fields and should have completed an experimental thesis. Medical students must hold the equivalent of an MD. The degree should be obtained by the time of enrolment to the PhD programme, at the latest.

Competition for the available positions is strong. To be considered for the programme, the minimum level of specific requirements for Chinese applicants who wish to apply for the RUB-CSC programme at the IGSN is:

  • MSC or equivalent degree: minimum 80% or GPA 3.2/4.0

In addition applicants should fulfil the following prerequisites:

  • Applicants must be citizens of the People’s Republic of China at the time of application
  • Age limit: 35 years
  • Applicants have to apply using our online application
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered!
  • Fluency in English is a prerequisite
  • Successful candidates must return to China for at least two years, upon completion of their PhD programme and/or research in Germany.
  • Additional selection criteria stipulated by CSC in the application process must be fulfilled (see here for details)

All courses, lectures and seminars at the IGSN are held in English. Thus, selected candidates must be fluent in written and spoken English and will be required to document their proficiency in English. Therefore, prior completion of a "Test of English as a Foreign Language" (TOEFL) or a test by the "International English Language Testing System" (IELTS) is strongly advised.
